East Village, Manhattan.

New York City is bracing itself for another winter storm currently. The predictions are for anywhere from 8-12 inches (or more) depending on where you get your weather information. This was taken in the midst of the last huge snowstorm we had. It’s beautiful when it first falls.

It’s hard to believe this happened less than two weeks ago. Everything is mostly melted now with a few piles of dirty slush-snow here and there.

This was taken the night of the blizzard. I love when the snow first falls but I do wish it would stay long enough for people to appreciate it and then just disappear. The snow is now melting and it’s mostly a giant mess with huge mounds of it lining the sidewalks pushed there by the snow plows.

Thankfully, the streets have started to get plowed. It’s been a slow process though.

I love the row of icicles gracing the front of this church facade. Winter may be harsh at times but it can be so beautiful.

Went out an hour ago to get some food and this was the scene that greeted me. Many parts of lower Manhattan are still not cleared of snow. Gorgeous.

I love holiday lights in the snow. The city achieves an eerie calm in snowstorms that’s so hard to describe in words.

This photo is of Houston Street which is usually packed with cars. It was taken last night. I love it because the wind gusts were so strong that the person in the photo was literally being pushed by the wind backward (as was I!) and the photo also shows the extremely low visibility that was occurring at that point in time.
A favorite local blog of mine, EV Grieve, featured some of my photos today as well which made me incredibly happy.

Sticking with the blizzard of 2010 theme today since I absolutely love how the city looks covered in snow.

Even in a blizzard with 50 mph wind gusts and odd moments of thunder and lighting there were still people turning the cube at Astor Place last night.

NYC is currently in the midst of a pretty wild blizzard. In addition to the high winds and mounds of snow there was also thunder and lightning at one point this evening. This was taken during a rather brave walk around my neighborhood -the Lower East Side and the East Village a few hours ago. I am still thawing out, I think.
