New York City - Night - Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline.

The city glistens and gleams

like a gem

nestled in the velvety

embrace of the night

with only a tiny, blushing

memory of the day’s kisses.

—-

I have been admiring the New York City skyline for years and it still never fails to make me feel as if all of my dreams have the possibility of coming true. This was taken on a gorgeous summer night in Brooklyn. It is a 13 second long exposure of the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan skyline taken with the Sony NEX-7.

It was a weekend night and the promenade was packed with visitors. I usually enjoy taking long exposures during the week when there are barely any people around. It’s become a way for me to take a step back and breathe. However, it was nice to watch everyone’s expressions as I waited for my long exposures to process.

The excitement and giddiness that washes over visitors who have never seen the New York City skyline is palpable. Sometimes it’s nice to smile along with everyone and savor the joie de vivre.
