NYC Flickr Meetup. High Line - Chelsea, New York City.

Flickr hosted a photowalk meetup yesterday at the High Line elevated park in Chelsea. I go on many photowalks (you can view my photos from a few recent ones here) so I did and didn’t know what to expect. I am happy to say that I had an amazing time! Not only did I see many familiar faces from previous photowalks but I met some newer photographer friends from Facebook and some Flickr users I had never met in person before.

Flickr’s head of product, Markus Spiering (the person in the center of the photo in this post playfully giving the Flickr colored beachballs a good tap!) was there with Flickr swag and a positive message about the future of Flickr. As a longtime user of Flickr, it was really wonderful to talk to him yesterday (we talked so much, I barely took any photos during the photowalk!). I also got a chance to sit down with him and a few other friends over some super tasty Currywurst at the Standard Hotel’s Biergarten.

I still find Flickr very, very valuable in terms of my photography so it was reassuring to hear from Markus that many of the positive things that he expressed on the Flickr blog earlier this year were just the beginning for the future of Flickr.

I have to say that it was refreshing to not only discuss some of my main issues with Flickr as well as the things I love about it but also hear from Marcus himself that Flickr will be improved upon in a major way that will be amazing for all Flickr users from those who use Flickr to share their photos with friends and family to hobbyist photographers as well as professional photographers and all varieties of photography lovers.

Here is to a great year for Flickr!
